Aled Posted 15 February , 2019 Share Posted 15 February , 2019 I wonder if there is anyone who could help me with identifying the uniform below. The photograph shows Lt Arthur Knight James, seated, together with his father, William James, standing. Arthur can be traced to the SAPC in 4th and 5th Battalions of the KAR and this photograph was taken at Johannesburg, Christmas 1917. Nothing else is known about William and any help with his uniform identification, cap badge etc would be very much appreciated.
FROGSMILE Posted 16 February , 2019 Share Posted 16 February , 2019 (edited) The South African forces of the relatively new Union favoured a number of distinctly circular badges, but I cannot make out which one or what precisely it is that he wears. It’s a small badge and at first I thought it might be a SA GS collar badge, but there seems to be either petals or shallow points surrounding its edge, and so I am unsure. His cuff knots suggest an auxiliary ‘Volunteer Corps’ of some kind. William also has a British campaign medal with 3 or 4 clasps, which I think might relate to the Second Anglo/Boer War.
