Recommended Posts

Can anyone decipher the word at 5. I would expect Lighterman but can only see Lighter - any suggestions. Could it be an abbreviation, if so I have not seen it before but have researched a number of Lighterman and it has always been written in full. Any suggestions gratefull recieved.

Lamp "lighter"?

Can you share his name, number etc?

I was wondering about that option Mike.

Edit - does the 1911 census throw any light on the subject?  I suppose he might still have been in education depending on the date of the form.

I do have some information on Thames lightermen. Name and number would help as said above. Does his number begin with 106?

A  quick look for "lifter" finds a pig lifter (steelworks) and coach lifter (railway worker).
