Hello,

Most, if not all, units belonging to the division would have regimental histories. I assume with "Death Head Hussars", you mean one of the Leib-Husaren-Regiments that belonged to the division, but only later during the war?

So, the question is about

Active in the area of Crépy-en-Valois on 1 September 1914 was Höherer Kavallerie-Kommandeur 2 (to which belonged 2nd Kavallerie-Division with the Leib-Husaren-Brigade). Crépy-en-Valois was captured by the Jäger Bataillone of HKK 2.

Nothing is mentioned about this in von Poseck, Die deutsche Kavallerie in Belgien und  Frankreich 1914, nor are there any high ranking officers reported to have been replaced around that (indicating they would have been captured). I think the episode may have been exaggerated a bit?
