Steven Broomfield Posted 7 February , 2019 Share Posted 7 February , 2019 Question: does the TWFM Roll identify down to battalion level? I am interested in seeing if soldiers in the 1st/5th and 2nd/5th Hampshires can be identified through the roll.
clk Posted 7 February , 2019 Share Posted 7 February , 2019 Hi Stephen, Here's an example page... Steven Broomfield Posted 7 February , 2019 Author Share Posted 7 February , 2019 Brilliant - thanks (And for TWFM read TFWM throughout) 1 hour ago, clk said: They would have had to volunteer for overseas service before the cut off qualification date (30th September 1914), but not gone in to theatre before 1916. Regards Chris Thanks. I know the regs, (they'd also need to be pre-war territotials or have rejoined with 4 years' previous service): I'm doing some research into the 5th hampshires and it looks like I need now to study the roll. clk Posted 7 February , 2019 Share Posted 7 February , 2019 It looks like there was only a couple of hundred men from the line units of the 5th Bn that qualified - Ancestry link. Regards Chris

clk Posted 8 February , 2019 Share Posted 8 February , 2019 Ah! Re the detail in your more recent thread, I see that your man is actually on the RE roll, which doesn't show his Hants Battalion. Image source: Ancestry.co.uk Regards Chris
