it has some bad mothing  as I have illustrated but overall in solid enough condition

no other markings other than what in photos

The top Kokarde was the German Empire's one in an earlier life. Black, white, red from out to in. Every German soldier had one on top of his cap.

Bottom one is to denote the State where the Regiment that a particular German soldier was in, came from.

In this case the Kingdom of Saxony.

Or not. I could be só wrong with that, but it sure looks Royal Saxony to me! Albeit it a somewhat dilapidated version...

This is what they look like new. (Says eBay.......)

Hi,

it´s Saxon alright. The stamp gives it away. XIX AK was the 2nd Saxon Armeekorps with the regions of and around Leipzig and Zwickau as well as Chemnitz from which it drew its troops.

The red band and piping makes it a Krätzchen for infantry units.

Wish I could find something like that!

Just to elaborate slightly, if I may GreyC, on your perfectly correct ID, and just for the benefit of Kmad really - 'BA' is short for 'Bekleidungs Amt' of clothing office. There is a nice article on these at: http://pickelhauben.net/depot-marks/
