Sandie Hayes Posted 4 February , 2019 Share Posted 4 February , 2019 This photograph is of 3,000 women war workers marching to Buckingham Palace. They are on their way to congratulate the King and Queen on the occasion of their Silver Wedding Anniversary. My question is : They have HFF3 printed on the front of their uniforms. Does anyone know what HFF3 refers to?
derekb Posted 4 February , 2019 Share Posted 4 February , 2019 I can’t help with HFF3, is it only on the tunics of the ladies at the front of the column who are wearing different colour caps, presumably supervisors? D

H = Hereford or is it an "N" as in this example i.e. 'National'. https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30093327 The date of the march of 3,000 women workers to Buckingham Palace was on the 29th June 1918. Admin kenf48 Posted 4 February , 2019 Admin Share Posted 4 February , 2019 (edited) Reported in the Sunday Pictorial 30th June 1918 The march included not only munitions workers but women from many organisations. 'Their march was a triumphant progress along a rose strewn path. Their brothers in the workshops and fighting forces did more than cheer. Very gallantly they showered roses on their sisters as they swung smilingly and smartly along'. Ken Edited 4 February , 2019 by kenf48

Sandie Hayes Posted 4 February , 2019 Author Share Posted 4 February , 2019 Well, thanks guys, answers to questions I didn't know I needed to ask! The caption on the photo was '11.10.18' I never thought to check it was correct. I never noticed that the women in the front had different coloured caps. The photo shows clearly that the letters are definitely HFF. Thanks for all your responses, very much appreciated.
