Peter Bennett Posted 3 February , 2019 Share Posted 3 February , 2019 I know newspaper articles at the time could be notoriously inaccurate but this man was allegedly recommended for the DCM for gallantry on 20th July 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal in 1917 and I wonder if some kind person can tell me what date his MM was gazetted and whether there is an entry in the Regimental War Diary regarding the DCM. Lance Corporal PUNYER, A Service Number 200495 Died 21/03/1918 Aged 25 2nd Bn.King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry M M Son of Albert and Louisa Punyer, of 12, Blenheim Place, Eightlands, Dewsbury, Yorks. George Rayner Posted 3 February , 2019 Share Posted 3 February , 2019 Have also found Alfred on Findmypast as 209495 And looking again at 2469 and 200495 they died on the same day. George
Guest Posted 5 November , 2019 Share Posted 5 November , 2019 Hi Mr Bennet, Arthur was definitely his name. Albert and Louisa are my great grandparents. Would very much like to find any further info. David I know that Arthur Punyer was given the MM because he came home on leave and had a picture taken wearing it. I have the picture but not the medal. There was a story in the family that he would have received another medal (DCM?) but for the fact that he was KIA before the paperwork was completed.
