ZIL Posted 1 February , 2019 Share Posted 1 February , 2019 I am currently researching for an Australian friend a soldier from No 3 Section 6 Field Company Engineers 2nd Div. AIF. He wrote a comprehensive diary and I quote 24/9/1916 LEFT YPRES AT 2.30PM .TOOK 15 INFANTRY TO REDAN..AM PUT IN CHARGE OF REDAN TUNNELS.12 SAPPERS & 44 INFANTRY WORKING 3 SHIFTS.LIVE IN TUNNELS. PUTTING IN DUGOUTS TO SLEEP IN. 25/9/1916 WORKING IN TUNNELS.WENT TO CANADIAN MINES IN CRAB CRAWL.THEY HAVE SOME DEEP TUNNELS,MINES ETC. Crab Crawl has been subject of previous posts but I have been unable to locate REDAN TUNNELS....apart from an area Grand Redan outside Nieuport. Is this the area of the Redan Tunnels or are they part of the Tor Top Tunnels System. Once again any information would be really appreciated. Thanks Zil

HarryBrook Posted 1 February , 2019 Share Posted 1 February , 2019 There is a map on page 85 of the Battleground Europe series book Hill 60 Ypres, by Nigel Cave, which shows St. Peter's St. and Davidson St. adjacent to Hedge Street, which is east of Observatory Ridge. The trench map sheets, and squares and the modern day co-ordinates for Hedge St. are shown below. I cannot see Redan Tunnels in the book.
