Admin DavidOwen Posted 30 January , 2019 Admin Share Posted 30 January , 2019 There are some files at TNA whilst not yet digitised snippets of information can be gleaned from the catalogue description. Most relate to its capture by the Germans. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C2617454 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C2617446 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C2617688 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C2617447 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C9349203 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C2617453
JWK Posted 30 January , 2019 Share Posted 30 January , 2019 2 pictures of the SS "Prins Hendrik" on this website (bottom two photographs in the section for the "Prins Hendrik (2)", there was also an earlier one) http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/SMZ1.html#anchor267456 and the complete details of the ship: http://www.marhisdata.nl/schip&id=5290 Doesn't say it was at Gravesend though. It was captured by the Germans twice, and released shortly after. Sold for scrap in 1922, and scrapped in 1923 in Hamburg.

JWK Posted 30 January , 2019 Share Posted 30 January , 2019 (edited) From the local(ish) newspaper of 21st October 1916: Yesterday 5 the mailboat "Prins Hendrik" arrived from England. The reason why she was a day late was because she was held up by the English Navy. On board there were 71 passengers, amongst whom again many German internees, and some German women and children. 2 internees embarked in Gravesend, of whom 1 died on board before sailing, and the other one was dying and taken ashore.. The body was also taken off the ship. Edited 30 January , 2019 by JWK
