158th Depot Brigade

Hello, I am researching a relative of mine. He was born in 1895 in Indiana. He never served overseas, but was part of the 158th Depot Brigade. I was looking for info on the brigade. What really is a depot brigade, and was looking for info on the whereabouts of the brigade. Maybe even a picture of the brigade? Any thing will help. His name was Forrest Ray McKinley, a private.

The role of depot brigades was to receive and organize recruits, provide them with uniforms, equipment and initial military training, and then send them to France to fight on the front lines. The depot brigades also received soldiers returning home at the end of the war and completed their out processing and discharges.

In 1918 the 158th was based in Camp Sherman, Chillicothe, Ohio, which had been built in 1917.

A brigade is between 1000 and 5000 men... I think.

But the US army brigade numbers were smaller I'm led to believe

US - During World War I the division consisted of four regiments divided into two brigades of two regiments each.
