Identity of uniform

This is a photograph of my Great Uncle John Arthurs.He survived the Great war.But is a bit of a family enigma,as there is a story that he was in 2 different regiments.So can to begin with identify this uniform he is wearing and is it possible to say what the year of issue.

I think we are looking at a soldier in the Durham Light Infantry, certainly a Light Infantry bugle.

With my bigger picture I would have to say either of the above.

Still hard to distinguish !

Looks to be a 1905 Service Dress type cap which became less common as the war went on- may also have an early chinstrap which used sliding loops rather than buckles to adjust- very similar to the officer type. Regards, Paul.

Yes, it could be as early as 1912.  I agree DLI too.

Service Record for a John Arthurs from Durham and in DLI is on Ancestry.
