Visser Posted 28 January , 2019 Share Posted 28 January , 2019 Hi there, I have been doing some looking into the military movements of my great uncle Baxter Ogilvie Grant who died during the German spring offensive near Arras. After arriving in France his documents state that he left a Canadian Base Depot (CBD) for Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp (CCRC). I have found some information stating that there was a CCRC near Aubin St. Vaast which is only about an hour drive from Arras. I was wondering if this was the only CCRC in France or if this is just one of many that he may have been sent to. As a bonus, does anybody happen to know where troops leaving Seaford England would have landed in France in late 1917? I am curious where the location of the CBD may have been located as well. Thanks for any information you may have!
tullybrone Posted 28 January , 2019 Share Posted 28 January , 2019 (edited) Hi, I’ve responded to the query on your other post. As a rule of thumb it’s often best to keep initial queries on one post. As there was only one Canadian Corps in France it’s likely there would only be a need for one Reinforcement Centre. Sorry haven’t got an answer for the Seaford to France query. Acknown Posted 28 January , 2019 Share Posted 28 January , 2019 I've done some G***ling. There's quite a lot on this subject. Page 3 of this indicates that there was only one CCRC: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/obj/005/f2/005-1142.29.020-e.pdf Again 'camp': https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/Pages/war-diaries.aspx This site says 'camps' but they were all 'in the the vicinity of Aubin St. Vaast, near Montreuil'' http://regimentalrogue.tripod.com/blog/index.blog/2321241/canadian-troops-outside-the-corps/ ... and LLT states CBD was at Le Havre: https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/other-aspects-of-order-of-battle/british-base-depots-in-france-1914-1918/.
