WW1 Scottish Territorials staging sites in England?

Recommended Posts

Eventually I will make it to the western front, but this summer I am visiting England for the first time.

My wife's grandfather is from Kilsyth in Scotland, a coal miner who served in the 7th Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and did ship over to France for the duration of the war.  I have this dim memory of visiting a website that was dedicated to the history of a town in England that was the training ground for the Scottish soldiers before they went over to France.  Large groups of Scottish men taking over the whole town.

I have a copy of the Battalion diary that says they departed from SouthHampton on December 15th 1914

Mainly just want to see if there are historical sites relative to her Grandfather's service that are located in England that I should make time to visit.

Thanks for the help.

That was just the lead I needed.  We are going to visit Shuttleworth, Bedford is just 2o minutes away.  I also found the blog that I originally read about this

Thanks for the help!
