This submarine was lost with all hands in 1918.

One of the crew Farrar Hill is upon the Batley Working Mens Club Roll of Honour.

There is a photograph of the crew, but no date, hence asking if anybody knows when this vessel was commissioned.

Farrar Hill transferred the submarines in 1916, not saying he went straight to E30.

Trying to narrow the photo down.

Thanks.

Thank you Sea Jane, I never thought of that.

I would like to think that he is on that photo with them wearing there hats and Farrars thumbnail picture in the local paper I can't say for certain he is on it.

Even if he is not in the picture some of them will have been shipmates of his, most likely. :)

I am sure we would like to see a copy of this picture.  I would as the boat is closely associated with Blyth where there is a Memorial to members of the crew killed in a 1916 battery explosion.  I posted a  couple of images of it in an earlier thread.  E30 operated with the 11th Flotilla, Blyth from January 1916 until late August 1916 then she was attached to the 9th Flotilla, Harwich.

Hello there seaJane and Hyacinth1326,

Please accept my apologies I have the wrong vessel, it should be E50 not E30, it is 2009 that I first came across this vessel the people are correct.

Once again my apologies.

Roger Thompson.

E50 has a Lives of the First World War community https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/community/5322 and a Wikipedia page   https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_E50 and a Barrow Submariners page entry   http://rnsubs.co.uk/boats/subs/e-class/e50.html

:)

Hello seaJane, yes I saw that this afternoon when I discovered by boo-boo.

We are going on a cruise to Denmark, Skagen if there is time I will see if I can get to the museum and pay my respects.

Excellent! (no, not HMS Excellent, which is somewhere else entirely).
