ANSWER!!

When Prussia and Saxony were bushing their S65PFM bayonets to convert to M71 rifle , Bavaria had their Werder rifle.Bavaria had only 4000 pioneer (PFM) bayonets with Werder brass pommel's and cross guards. The way to tell an ex Bavarian is that they were the only ones made with a false edge on bottom ( as a channel guide, avoiding damage drawing and closing the bayonet) .

There was no official model type for this modification , so was not a "Trials" type. Simply trying to use up existing bayonets.

These Werder 69 PFM bayonets were converted to S71 standard by swapping out brass Werder for brass S71 grips and mS71 cross guard. This is the "First" conversion for the S71PFM. Later, with the commission 88 rifle

a second conversion was made, by changing to a larger muzzle ring, which was milled out concave to fit flush with front of barrel jacket, finally extending Mortice slot. Again, no official model type, but with 2 different rifles, and mod.'s, you could think of it kind of as 69/71/88

P.S. I got both conversions

You did great Gernika

Superb bayonet.

Just a question about this type of bayonets, how can you difference PFM65/71 from a PFM71 ???

Not clear for me.

As I understand it the Pfm 65/71 has a "bushed" muzzle ring, with an insert reducing the diameter to 17.4 mm, the Pfm 71 has an unbushed muzzle ring of 17.4 mm.

The S60 Fusilier and 65 PFM were both for Dreyes rifles. The 65 Hirschfanger as well, all three were bushed in the buzzle ring to fit the M71 rifle. All other models of S71 family were new made .

A good example, look up my old post of Fusiliers, shows difference in original, bushed, and new cross guard. Thanks
