Regiments & Abbreviations

Hi

I am developing a database of men from Darwen who served in The Great War. II realise that the list is going to incomplete) but I feel that I should include as many as I can. Apart from their names, I intend, where possible, to include the regiment, number and last known address.

 

I wish to abbreviate the regiments and I would like to know if there an acceptable (approved) list of abbreviations for the different regiments?

There was an official list in the monthly and quarterly issues of the Army List. I think there should be a copy available online somewhere.
