travd3 Posted 20 January , 2019 Share Posted 20 January , 2019 Hello, I am not sure if this is posted to the right section, but I am trying to find out the unit designation and type of ammo pouch that I have had for a very long time. It looks as though the number / letter read "2 BLR 88" but I am not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
John Thorne Posted 20 January , 2019 Share Posted 20 January , 2019 (edited) I'm no expert on German equipment, but based on comparing your photo with the one on page 38 of Alfred Kruk's Patronentaschen, Patronengürtel und Banduliere 1850-1950, I think you have an example of the Landwehr cartridge pouch M74/87 for territorial troops. You can see the stitching holes left in the leather from where this pouch was converted from an older M74 infantry pouch. travd3 Posted 20 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 20 January , 2019 I appreciate the help with the ID it looks like you may have right on it. Honestly I missed the previous holes as an sign that it may have been converted. The next hurdle is the unit ID which seems very confusing.
