07 bayonet Markings

Hi there, first time posting here.

Can you guys help me identify the marking on one of my bayonets, apart from the 1907 (pattern number), the war department arrow and the '16 (year of issue), I'm generally unsure of what they mean.

Any help is much appreciated,

Cheers.

1907 pattern, production date (4) April 1916 by Wilkinson.

X is a bend test mark, the other markings are inspection stamps.

The bayonet also went through an inspection in 1926 (.26)

(we were typing together)😄

The crown/8B/E is purely an inspection stamp to signify that the bayonet passed one of several inspections.

However, You do get more information from it, namely that the inspector ‘s code number was 8B and that he was based at/ appointed by the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield (E) to inspect work at the Wilkinson factory.

There is also, on at least one grip, a second inspection stamp usually of the format “crown/number/W”, where this is a Wilkinson inspector who checked only the grips.

Regards,

JMB

Thanks for the information so far this is great!

Unfortunately there are no markings on the pommel and nothing I can see on the handle although there is damage to the handle.
