Blackblue Posted 13 January , 2019 Share Posted 13 January , 2019 (edited) Does anyone know of an alternate map reference system being used in 1917? I have two references at Vaulx-Vraucourt/Noreiul which are recorded as 57C NW K.5.90.80 and K.5.89.78, but there is no K Grid Square on the usual 1:20000 57C NW map? John Milner Posted 13 January , 2019 Share Posted 13 January , 2019 Hello Tim Vaulx-Vraucourt/Noreiul are on map 57c NW2, and you are correct, there is no Square K, they are in Square C. Do you have any trench names in that area? I have a map from 1918 with the German trenches named, let me know if you think it may be of use. Blackblue Posted 17 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 17 January , 2019 Much appreciated John, Not required. I am interested in 1917. Rgds Tim D
TEW Posted 18 January , 2019 Share Posted 18 January , 2019 Square K would be NE. You are also missing a letter (a,b,c,or d) to identify the sub-square of 5 which the 90.80 & 89.78 relate to. 57c NW H.5 or 57C NW I.5 would be close ish to Vaulx-Vraucourt while Noreiul would be close ish to 57C NW C.5 TEW
