samsearcher Posted 10 January , 2019 Share Posted 10 January , 2019 (edited) hello Chaps, I was here a while back, looking for a bit more info on Samuel Wells, Norfolk No: (December 1915) 29257. He transferred to 13th Essex No: 41304 sometime before April 1917 (when he was wounded). I wonder if anyone has any idea when this transfer took place, as he also transferred to 15th Essex when returning to duty in 1918 after being twice wounded.... he has papers from the 10th Essex also but I don't know if he was with them too later, demobbed 1919. Can anyone advise if his service record or medal roll exists? Thanks Edited 11 January , 2019 by samsearcher
Gardenerbill Posted 10 January , 2019 Share Posted 10 January , 2019 Hi Samsearcher, He has a medal index card so he will have a medal roll record. He may also have a silver war badge record, I don't currently have an active Ancestry or FMP account so I can't check, but another forum pal will probably come along shortly who has and can check for you. MaxD Posted 10 January , 2019 Share Posted 10 January , 2019 Medal card can be seen at :http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D5820614 also on Ancestry with his medal roll entry under S Wells using his Essex regiment and number. Moonraker Posted 10 January , 2019 Share Posted 10 January , 2019 "A while back" was almost 12 years ago! It took me a while to track down the old thread which may save others re-treading some very old ground. It also clarifies that the man Sam is interested in is called Samuel Wells and not "Samuel Wells Norfolk"! It includes his Medal Index Card. Moonraker Thanks Chaps, Moonraker, yes it was a while ago !, I keep looking occasionally and have joined Forces War Records at times, hoping to find some updated info (which I have just done, regarding his first wounding 29th April 1917). I also had a very quick visit to Kew, without getting any further yet. Nearly all records list Sam as just S. Wells. cheers, John Edited 11 January , 2019 by samsearcher

Interestingly, both numbers either side of Sam seem to have been in different Essex battalions, but that was later in 1918.....
