meekumslr Posted 10 January , 2019 Share Posted 10 January , 2019 Happy new year all, hope you had a nice one. I picked up a uniform today, a 2nd Lt in the Manchesters and the name in the breeches is John Hills, which is all I have to go on. I have tried to search the net but nothing. Can anyone advise the best source for researching him please? Many thanks, Neil.
meekumslr Posted 10 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 10 January , 2019 After spending a bit of time with the makers label, the breeches appear to have been made by a theatrical company for a film so the name will more than likely not be someone who served. mancpal Posted 10 January , 2019 Share Posted 10 January , 2019 Don’t think they are Mcrs lapel badges. Perhaps General Service with the Manchester scroll badly stitched on. Take no heed, I’m frequently wrong. simon
mancpal Posted 10 January , 2019 Share Posted 10 January , 2019 Had another look, I’m positive the badges have nothing to do with the Manchester Regiment. Simon

You are quite right Simon, they are a product of someone‘s imagination
meekumslr Posted 10 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 10 January , 2019 Chaps, thank you for giving this your attention. This uniform has taken a very bizarre twist. The name in the breeches is John Mills and we are now looking at a film company jacket and breeches. It is now likely that (following research), the breeches were worn by John Mills in the film ‘Oh What A Lovely War’. The jacket is highly likely to have been used for film too, with the collar badges modified for production but I just need to find out if the tunic is original or not and unfortunately, I don’t know enough to tell whether it is. Film companies often used originals that were then adorned with the buttons and badges they needed. Neil.
