Only to observe that he is not commemorated by the CWGC.

Intriguing that he was discharged due to ill health, and died 3 years later.

533253 original number 6470 is middle name James and was based in Bury St Edmonds...

Frederick Joseph was one of six brothers ans would be the only one not to serve...5307887325544448.png.5f98b270e971535156968b6888463a9d.png

Simon,

KRRC transferred to other regiments and then appearing on that regiment's medal roll often get any letter prefix missed off from their KRRC service number in the roll listing.

I suspect your chap was actually R/19694 Rfn Frederick J BATSON.  Probably a Derby Scheme man, or an early MSA conscript.

As you know, his SWB listing has his enlistment dated to 29 Feb 1916, but it's probable his KRRC SN was allocated in late 1915 some time before he was called up.

Difficult to confirm his KRRC battalion as these men were scattered through all the battalions with little pattern evident.  I'll continue digging for you.

Mark
