davidbohl Posted 8 January , 2019 Share Posted 8 January , 2019 According to the NUT records a D.McCarthy from Merthyr Tydfil served in ww1. Can we find his first name and regiment please ? There is a FMP record for teacher registration in 1920 for Daniel McCarthy. I'm stumped on a D.P.McCarthy who played for us in 1914, see photo http://home.btconnect.com/seftonrufc/s56.jpg Could they be the same man ? alf mcm Posted 8 January , 2019 Share Posted 8 January , 2019 Dave, He is probably Daniel McCarthy, teacher at Dowlais R.C. Boy's School according to this record on FMP. https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBOR%2FTCHIX%2FMACA-MACH%2F0121&parentid=GBOR%2FTCHIX%2F53614 He trained in Dublin. davidbohl Posted 8 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 8 January , 2019 I see his previous job in Dundee finished in 1913, I wonder if he looked for a job in Liverpool first before going to S.Wales, the dates fit. Perhaps he was Irish RC and dropped the middle initial P(Patrick). Difficult one really. Dave

Scalyback Posted 9 January , 2019 Share Posted 9 January , 2019 There is\was a strong RC community in Merthyr Tydfil. What you need might be here https://archiveshub.jisc.ac.uk/search/archives/2389e34a-3040-3ee4-94d8-9900d068034a 1904-1922; papers relating to staffing. I drink with the chap that put all this to archive! So will have a chat on the weekend.
