Dear aunt and dear uncle,

The 164 remains at Laval, but I leave already tomorrow with the section EA for La Flèche. We are with hands [don't know the long word], not even the time to write, always [if this is coincés = uncomfortable]. I hug you with all my heart as I do all the family.

If the long word is romanichels it means gypsy or bohemian, but I think I must be missing an idiom.

I may be wrong about the word before it being mains (hands).

Oooo, you were faster on the trigger than I was, SeaJane.  I was wrestling with "romanichels" !

i have transcribed it as:

Laval, lundi, 9h du soir

Chère tante et cher oncle

Le 164 reste à Laval, mais je

pars déjà demain avec la

section d'E A pour La Flèche.

nous sommes de vrais romanichels.

Pas même le temps d’écrire

toujours courir(?).  Je vous embrasse

de tout cœur ainsi que toute la famille.

Laval, Monday, 9pm

Dear aunt and dear uncle

The 164 are staying in Laval, but I am leaving tomorrow with Section E A for La Flèche.

we are real gypsies. Not even time to write; always rushing.

with fondest love to you and to all the family.

[ Laval is the county town of the Mayenne département of western France.  La Flèche is another town, fairly close by.]

Well done Angela, I missed "vrais"! I think you are right about courir too - the idiom might be "always on the go", I suppose.
