The all white with green "peak" of the 13th Hussars. Must have been a nightmare to keep clean.

I still think that this might have a laundered cover.  I feel that I can see gentle puckering along the edges. It would in my opinion have been the only practicable way to keep it clean without making it crusty with a whitening paste.

it could be, I am sure that if it is covered that it is only on the top due to the detailing visible on the sides.  Agreed that i must have been absolute Horror to keep clean, even when the F.S covers where introduced!

I wonder if there’s anything in the regimental history.  If cotton drill covers, as I think they probably were, they would have been starched and laundered regularly under QM and SQMS arrangements, and probably fitted partly by drawstring and partly by hooks and eyes.  I’m not suggesting a GS issue, but something arranged regimentally.

Interesting to get that detail such as the “drummer red”, Toby.  Thanks for posting it.

Royal Scots Greys

On closer inspection, this is very interesting , the only time I have seen the Scots Greys Brodrick, probably on of the most unique.  Notice the blue and white vandkyed  patch. I doubt we will see another! I have made an attempted at replicating it on paint.
