Keith_history_buff Posted 4 January , 2019 Share Posted 4 January , 2019 In my fairly limited exposure to profiles of men who served in the US Infantry, I seldom come across reference to the battalion, but I do see reference to the company. As I understand it, there were 3 battalions to a Regiment, each battalion comprising 4 rifle companies and support. Would it be possible to deduce the battalion from the company i.e. a Private in Company "A", would be in the 1st Battalion a Private in Company "D", would be in the 1st Battalion a Private in Company "H", would be in the 2nd Battalion a Private in Company "L", would be in the 3rd Battalion Regards, GP Source consulted: United States Army in the World War, 1917-1919, Organization of the American Expeditionary Forces volume 1 PDF
