5th East Lancashire Regiment - Military Medal Query

Have come into possession of a trio of WW1 medals [BWM, VM and a Military Medal] They have been awarded to 235235 Pte R Cole of the 5th East Lancashire Regiment. I am trying to work out where Pte Cole won his Military Medal, Gallipoli possibly? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Given the date of LG and he has just the pair means definitely not Gallipoli.

A scrap of his service papers shows his service started on 24/1/17. Lived Kelvedon, Essex (specifically Layer Marney). Born c1898.

He was in the reserve from 2/6/16.

BEF from 4/7/17. Looks as if originally with Herts Regiment (11828). To 1/4 E Lancs from 27/7/17. to 1/5 E Lancs from 13/5/18.

Discharged 23/2/19

As MM shows 5th E Lancs the action must be after 13/5/18.

He is named in the September 1918 WD of 42 Div A&QMG under Honours and Rewards. It shows his number (wrongly) as 235234 but confirms he was 1/5 ELR. (Ancestry p 423/509). Further reading in the September 1918 WDs of 42 Div HQ with maps and 126 Infantry Brigade. It seems likely that the award was for action in that month. The Unit WD can be found on Ancestry under Various Infantry Brigades - 42 Div - Piece 2657.
