Guest Posted 31 December , 2018 Share Posted 31 December , 2018 Can anyone help me please? I’m trying to find my gt gt grandfather on ancestry and any further info about his time in this regiment. His is name is Charles Henry Morrisson, and DOB 1883, however he has changed his name to Henry on wedding/census, along with age. We we know he died from injury in the war when home, but little else. we can’t find birth certificate either. Appears to have originated from docklands London, but a census suggests Hampshire, but again, meet dead~end. Mu hope id that when and if I secure more info about his time in the war, it may also aid ancestry searches. i think I’ve found a accurate recorded except his name is Morris! Did they shorten names? Any advice is appreciated as I want to find as much as possible for my grandma who’s 80. My Nan placed plaque at shadwell basin for him a few years ago. Jrmh Posted 31 December , 2018 Share Posted 31 December , 2018 CWGC has his Regimental Number as 4466 CH Morrison https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/356386/morrison,-/ It looks like his service record is available on Ancestry.co.uk (with free trial or a subscriotion) Good luck. Jrmh Posted 31 December , 2018 Share Posted 31 December , 2018 Medal Index Card shows no medals awarded, but Silver War Badge List TP/5332 (also on Ancestry)
sotonmate Posted 31 December , 2018 Share Posted 31 December , 2018 (edited) The Silver War Badge List gives this soldier as enlisted on 22 May 1915 and discharged sick aged 33 on 20 Nov 1916 without serving overseas. The service record on Ancestry is limited to a couple of pages, one of which gives him with broncho-pneumonia and in Fulham Military Hospital for a month or so in 1915.
