Dever Mayfly #1 Posted 31 December , 2018 In the service sheet of a soldier in Egypt, I found that he spent two weeks in the General Hospital at Cairo in July 1917. The initials POVO appear where one might expect the cause of his illness/injury (a year later he spent a week in hospital with Diptheria). Does anyone know what these initials stand for? voltaire60 #2 Posted 31 December , 2018 Pyrexia of Unknown Origin- it's a U not a V. It just means a serious rise in temperature and fever
MBrockway #3 Posted 31 December , 2018 Are you sure it is not PUO - pyrexia of unknown origin? Great minds .... best wishes for Hogmanay!
Dever Mayfly #4 Posted 31 December , 2018 Yes the V could well be a U. Many thanks for the prompt answers.
Robert Dunlop #5 Posted 8 January Strictly speaking, PUO refers to multiple instances of a fever being recorded over at least 3 weeks without a diagnosis being made. The classification raises a specific spectrum of potential causes, including certain types of infection or cancer. Robert
