Neil Mackenzie Posted 30 December , 2018 Posted 30 December , 2018 I am doing a bit of research on Lt John Godfrey Bradley Smith (RAMC) who was drowned on 15th April 1917 when the HMT Arcadian was sunk by a German submarine just off Milos. My query concerns his medal entitlement as his MIC shows an entry for the BWM but the Victory Medal line is completely blank. I know there were cases where a man would get the BWM but not the VM but I cannot see how it would apply in this case. I understand the Arcadian was sailing FROM Salonika when it sunk so he must have been in a theatre of war. He is sometimes listed as JGB Smith and other times as JG Bradley-Smith so there may be another MIC with his VM entry. Or did they just do the BWM line in some cases and the VM entitlement was implied? Many thanks Neil
Admin DavidOwen Posted 30 December , 2018 Admin Posted 30 December , 2018 Odd I cannot seem to find his officer record at TNA either.... (but that could just be me!)
Admin DavidOwen Posted 30 December , 2018 Admin Posted 30 December , 2018 This previous thread and link may suggest he could have been aboard from the UK and did not disembark in Salonika, so didn't serve in a theatre of war? Not sure if being aboard a vessel in such dangerous waters might have counted though? https://www.firstworldwar.com/diaries/torpedoed.htm
chaz Posted 30 December , 2018 Posted 30 December , 2018 similar to India postings? only entitlement BWM in my great grandfathers case plus the IGSM no victory.
