Hi,

I'm trying to find out more details of my partner's great uncle,

Private

FISHER, GEORGE HUMPHREY

Service Number 54204

Died 30/05/1918

Aged 32

9th Bn.
Royal Welsh Fusiliers

D C M

We have some details, but no details as to how or why he was awarded the DCM, he's buried at BOUILLY CROSS ROADS MILITARY CEMETERY.

Thanks in advance.

Publication of the citation in the London Gazette of his DCM

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30495/supplement/1304

The annotated version of the page shows it was for his actions at Wytschaefe on 1/8/1917

This is right at the start of the Battle of Passchendaele (3rd Battle of Ypres)

Hi

He was entitled to a British War Medal and Victory Medal, and also served with the Monmouth Regt with service number 3727 as per his MIC which does not have a date of entry to first theatre served so was after 1 Jan 1916. MIC from Free Ancestry.

In the Service record of Moses Griffith ( name only on Ancestry) there is a list of Missing of 9 (S) Bn RWF from 28/05/1918 to 14/06/1918. The list is not to be found in the Unit WD or the WD of 58 Infantry Brigade and may be of interest to someone.. There are some good narratives of the actions in this period in the WDs.
