Dever Mayfly Posted 28 December , 2018 Share Posted 28 December , 2018 Does anyone know what the initials AM II stand for? They refer to a 35 year old recruit/cadet in the RNR who moved from HMS President to HMS Victory in July 1917. The service record also states "Qual in Air Service Rtgs" before he was invalided out of the RN in September ex-Haslar Hospital.

HERITAGE PLUS Posted 29 December , 2018 Share Posted 29 December , 2018 (edited) Quote It's Aircraft Mechanic Second Grade. The correct rank title is actually Air Mechanic Class 2 . Dave Edited 29 December , 2018 by HERITAGE PLUS
horatio2 Posted 29 December , 2018 Share Posted 29 December , 2018 2 minutes ago, HERITAGE PLUS said: The correct rank title is actually Air Mechanic Class 2 . Admiralty Circular Letter No.22 of 15 July 1912 (setting up the RNAS) clearly states that the RNAS ratings (both able seaman equivalent) are Air Mechanic 2nd Grade and 1st Grade. Similarly, RNAS Chief Petty Officer Mechanics were rated 1st Grade, 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade. On 1 April 1918, Air Force Memorandum No.1, giving details of RNAS to RAF trade transfers, referred to RNAS Air Mechanics by Class but still listed CPOs RNAS by Grade. All RAF ranks were listed by Class.
