mebu Posted 27 December , 2018 Share Posted 27 December , 2018 A pal told me his gd went to France in 1914 with 9th Hussars. From my limited knowledge of this area - is it correct to say it must have been 9th Lancers? Thanks
Acknown Posted 27 December , 2018 Share Posted 27 December , 2018 (edited) Not my area either, but: http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/cavalry-regiments/the-hussars/ http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/cavalry-regiments/the-lancers/ It seems that there was a 9th (Yorkshire Hussars) Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, but it didn't form until Oct 17: https://www.britishempire.co.uk/forces/armyunits/yeomanry/yorkshirehussars.htm Acknown Edited 27 December , 2018 by Acknown More information
Sepoy Posted 27 December , 2018 Share Posted 27 December , 2018 The 9th Hussars is an error, as the 9th was Lancers, but he could have meant the 8th Hussars. The easiest way of confirming which Cavalry Regiment he served in, is to discover what his Grandfather's name was and look him up. Sepoy
Steven Broomfield Posted 27 December , 2018 Share Posted 27 December , 2018 Or 19th Hussars, of course.
