The address is too much to be coincidence!

One of your four family members!

Oh...my...goodness!!!!! That is just brilliant.

I've just found Oscar Cyril Bonner born in 1889 and living in Birmingham with wife and son in 1939

Thanks to ALL contributing. Are there any other children born before Clara and John?

Hmmmmmmm….

there is a John Bonner b 1898 in Nova Scotia. Canada Census 1911 District 41 Colchester. It does say he is Canadian though...but only been there since 1910

That's the same then. The few details there are appear to tally though...and as his brother is there, and he's not in England...

Re: The medical report.

"S.W. Knee R. T.&.T."  [ Shrapnel Wound Knee (Right), Through & Through].

It only mentions a wound to the knee, no mention of a wound to the arm.

Yet it mentions the entrance and exit wounds on the thigh just above the knee, and adds "Foreign body passed posterior to the humerus".

I assume the writer meant 'femur' ?

You would surmise it is an error in identification of bone.

Alternative explanation for visiting 37 Unett Street and having mother listed as Fitzpatrick?

I still think it is the same man...

George, I looked for a passage back to the UK and didn't find it but I don't doubt that he went to Canada. Would be nice to see some concrete evidence. Will look a Census shortly

Hi

The 1911 Canadian census shows that John was born in England in January 1898. The birth that was registered in Birmingham in 1898 in the March quarter. It could be worth getting a copy of the birth certificate to ascertain when the birth took place.

Interesting no other John Bonner was registered in the March quarter in 1898

What I have come across with two NY record of military service cards is that the person's place of birth is recorded as NY, even though they were immigrants. I wonder if there was something similar with the 1911 census return?

Quite happy to accept the Canadian 1911 Census as John. He's employed as a Domestic and attending School and living in the same District as Frederick [although I haven't found his Census Return/1916 Marriage/1945 Death]

Great news is that both Lieut Frederick and Sgt Oscar received DCM's. Other news - I haven't found any other children to either partnerships

[I must stop posting after 3am. This is getting to be a habit lately ^_^ ]

I see that Oscar is an "inmate" on the 1901 Census at what was then a charity, Blue Coat School in Birmingham. Could it be that his brother was sent to Canada under an orphan scheme? Such circumstances could be embarrassing, so perhaps he told the census enumerator he was born locally?
