Remembered Today:

16 Sherwood Foresters during Menin Road battle

A good general

Where was the 16th Bn of the Sherwood Foresters during that battle of Menin Road? I know they were apart of the attack and in Haig's fourth dispatch, it says that their division had gone east of Shrewsbury Forest and reached the valley of Bassevillebeek, but where was this battalion exactly in the battle?

Thanks!

Unit War Diary WO95/2587/1 can  be read on Ancestry UK if you can get a sub,or a free trial,or your local Library. Bereft of maps and orders though, which is not a frequent omission in most of the Diaires that I get to see ! There is a long account of Day 1(20 Sep) of the Menin Road action from pages 413 to 418 (of 516) from where they kicked off by attacking the German line at Shrewsbury Forest, plus a little more account for the days to 25th.

The HQ 117 Infantry Brigade War Diary,WO95/2585/4 (Sep-Oct 1917) will likely have maps and orders and probably progressive dispositions but does not agree to being summoned by my searches, you may have more luck !
