There have been a number of examples previously posted on the forum.  Search ‘Divisional Gallantry Cards’

As with all printed ephemera survival tends to be haphazard.

One of the problems is that these cards tended to be a consolation instead of a medal, therefore depended on the attitude of the recipient.  They were also given as a recognition of a more substantive award.

Not commonplace but not especially rare.  A nice thing to have especially with a family connection.

Thanks for this. He was killed in 1918 after  transferring to the RAF in a flying accident , won the MM whilst an engineer, and his widow was the first person to live in our house. The certificates were left in the loft.
