58 TS Avro D7762 mid-air in Egypt 5 Oct 18 - but with who?

Recommended Posts

Kiwi pilots, instructor Jack Seabrook and his pupil Maurice Cameron were both badly injured in a mid-air collision at or near Suez on 5 Oct 18. They were flying Avro 504J or K D7762. But what was the identity of the other aircraft and the fate of its occupants? No deaths in the area this date, according to Hobson's Airmen Died.

TIA,

Errol

Flt Cdt Hector Stanley Strange (formerly 4/2 Dorset Regiment) was flying Sopwith Pup B6111 when it collided with D7762.  He died from his injuries on 7 October 1918.

I hope this helps you.

Many thanks Gareth. Interesting to note that of the three casualty cards for Strange one states he was flying Avro D7764 (just 2 numbers off D7762) and the other two Pup B6111 - Strange indeed! There is no second person mentioned as being with him on Strange's cards, so the Pup certainly looks the more likely candidate.

Cheers,

Errol
