Remembered Today:

Remembrance tree at Christmas tree festival

There are some amazing trees at the Christmas tree festival here in Salisbury

Connection is for the past 5 years I have done an Advent Remembrance tree to commemorate soldiers who died in the days leading up to Christmas 100 years previously, an interesting mix, all ranks, all ages, all regiments.

The reason I mention it, as when I was stewarding at the festival, so many people who I am sure hadn't an interest before, were picking up the book, which I always do with extra information in and reading avidly.

Also people were wanting to talk about their relatives from WW1, for some the first time and I was able to point them in the right direction GWF, plus I had printed a leaflet with all useful websites for them to find out more.

Lastly I printed out a poem that I received from a  96 year WW2 veteran( about Flanders Field) who is still writing poems! I saw a few wipe away a tear!

Last day today 12-6.
