trajan Posted 8 December , 2018 Share Posted 8 December , 2018 Well, not that many Grenadier units for sure! Basically speaking, unit marked bayonets are reasonably common for anything pre-1914/1915, but rare afterwards. Of course, one marked to a Grenadier unit would be a prestige piece as that is a prestige unit - rather like having a P.1907 marked to the British Grenadier Guards, but a unit marking for one of the war-time German units (i.e., 200 + numbers), or balloon, air force squadrons, etc., would be rarer. Steel scabbards are uncommon - and fakes are around. Real ones should have fraktur marks on the top of the ocket, but not all do. Julian PS: will get around to messages later - been very busy and still am!

trajan Posted 9 December , 2018 Share Posted 9 December , 2018 Another rarity are Waffenfabrik Mauser 98/05 bayonets with unit markings... Unit markings were not supposed to be applied to anything introduced into service after August 1914, but some units did so as late as 1915 and a rare few into 1918.
