Derbys Posted 2 December , 2018 Share Posted 2 December , 2018 Hello Winter Photographers of Derby, UK, took many photographs of the German officers interned at Donington PoW Camp, UK, and at Kegworth / Sutton Bonnington Camp. Some of these photos were made into postcards and sent back to friends and family in Germany by officers. Winters also took photographs of the graves of officers who died in the camps and were buried locally and subsequently reinterred at Cannock Chase - photos of these graves could be sent back to relatives in Germany. I'm trying to trace any photo or photo postcards of these German officers - or the graves of officers - that may still exist.Any help in tracing such photographs would be most welcome and appreciated. Thanks Chris

Derbys Posted 23 December , 2018 Author Share Posted 23 December , 2018 Many thanks Dazscuba, appreciate your help. Just the job. Thanks also, Sabine22. Re that link to ‘Winter Photographer’ you posted - actually I’m working with Winters to find those very photographs mentioned in the article :: ‘ Winter’s chief photographer at the time travelled to the camp and took portraits of the soldiers, before asking each one to write down their address. Once back at the studio, he dutifully sent each portrait to the designated address as a way of showing the soldiers’ families that they were safe and being cared for, behind enemy lines ‘ .....BUT more fascinating and historically important are the photos taken by W.W.Winter of the graves of deceased POWs initially buried at Donington Cemetery before being moved and reinterred at Cannock Chase - these were photos taken of their graves and sent back to relatives in Germany. Now if we could locate at least one of those.......... Thanks again both. Chris.
