Pte Harold Edward Ormrod - 790th Mechanical Transport Coy, Army Service Corps

Remembering Harold Edward Ormrod, who served as Private M/317144 - 790th Mechanical Transport Coy, Army Service Corps. He died of pneumonia on 17 November 1918, aged 29, whilst serving in Egypt, and is buried in the Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, in Alexandria, Egypt (Grave Ref. G. 97).

 

The Commonwealth War Graves Debt of Honour Register records that Harold was the son of Mrs Ormrod, of 1 Harold Street, Egremont, Wallasey; and the husband of Ethel Ormrod, of 10 Birnam Road, Seacombe, Wallasey.

 

At the time of the 1911 Census Harold was living at 1 Harold Street, Egremont, Wallasey.

 

He is believed to be the H.E. Ormrod commemorated on the war memorial situated in the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Mount Street, Liverpool, Merseyside.

The memorials commemorate the former pupils and staff of the Liverpool Institute for Boys, who died in action in the First and Second World Wars.

 

Harold was employed as a vulcanizer prior to the war, and continued in this trade with the Army Service Corps.
