I do like JM's travels through the various war memorials, but if most of the places sound familiar, this one was a complete unknown...

Thanks.

 

The original village is the Northern part of the current village which is mostly modern houses.  The War Memorial was originally outside the church North of the village, that was built in memorial of a local landowner's wife.  It looks as if it might have been multi-denominational.  Became how a residence and now a Tandoori restairant.

I'll try to pass by next time... only places I know in Scotland are Edinburgh, Glasgow and... don't laugh... Garelochhead !!

I like the name of the nearby railway station (closed now of course) - Cassillis Station

haven't noticed... mind you we were walking 40 km every day in the middle of nowhere, view on the submarines and trying to survive "The B***"... Don't mean to be rude, but that's what they called that ONE hill on day one...
