Jools mckenna Posted 4 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 4 January , 2019 I think I've worked out what unit they are from, the man furthest left has a 2 on his shoulder board. Does that mean they were from the Kgl. Bayer. 2. Infanterie-Regiment?
GreyC Posted 4 January , 2019 Share Posted 4 January , 2019 (edited) Hi, as they not always wore the correct uniforms or parts thereof, it might also be RIR2 or LIR2 (Prussian). Normally you´d expect a Landwehr or Reserve Cross as 2nd cockade, but this was not always so. Very often they wore the normal Prussian one. The cockade does look a bit Bavarian, though. Jools mckenna Posted 4 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 4 January , 2019 Assuming that they are Bavarian, is this Hansen?
GreyC Posted 4 January , 2019 Share Posted 4 January , 2019 (edited) These two could qualify. Ancestry has digitized the Stammblätter of the Bavarian soldiers, so you could search there for him, assuming the regiment is it. But this seems to be the Bavarian Reserve Inf. Reg 2 not the IR proper. GreyC Edited 4 January , 2019 by GreyC

GreyC Posted 4 January , 2019 Share Posted 4 January , 2019 (edited) Vizefeldwebel der Reserve und Offizierstellvertreter Peter Hansen, born or currently living in Brixen. Vizefeldwebel being the rank, Offiziersstellverteter the position (stand in for Officer, who were in short supply). From what I can see of their uniforms none of them matches that of a Vizefw or Offizierstellverteter Please note my additional thought amended to my earlier post! Jools mckenna Posted 4 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 4 January , 2019 Would the reserve not wear a 2 on the shoulder board?
GreyC Posted 4 January , 2019 Share Posted 4 January , 2019 (edited) Yes, the Prussian one as well as the Bavarian one. The Hansens you selected seem to have been wounded/killed in the Bavarian 2. RIR as their names come from the Bavarian lists. GreyC Edited 4 January , 2019 by GreyC
Jools mckenna Posted 4 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 4 January , 2019 There are 62 entries for Hansens when searching "2. Infanterie-Regiment" but most are prussian guard or jager regiments
Jools mckenna Posted 4 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 4 January , 2019 When looking at photos(through a magnifying glass) the cockades look different to Prussian cockades from about the same distance.

Are you sure that isn't him? He's in the Bavarian Verlustlisten(p192). And is probably a different person than Peter Hansen on page 161 + Leutnant is a better match to the uniforms. I realise the s before the k isnt formed as one would expect. If so a possibility could be Lt.d.R.d.Inf Eduard Salisco Bav RIR 2, also written Salisko in the casualty lists. a= Stellung - post/dugout Charlie
