Ernest Sidney Gibson was commissioned as 2nd Lt on 29.10.1915 believed to be with the Durham Light Infantry.  He was awarded the Military Cross during his service but I am unable to trace this in the London Gazette, can anyone assist me with this query.

Hi John,

It looks like his MC action was on 27th September 1917, whilst serving with the 9th Battalion.

John,

It's worth looking up the war diary; the gist of it is:  On 27 September Second-Lieutenant Ernest Gibson and twenty-one men of D Company raided a German trench near Rotten Row. Access was achieved by placing mats over the German wire. They suffered one slightly wounded man but killed six of the enemy and captured a wounded PoW.

Thanks for the information on the trench raid, I will have a look at the war diary for that action.
