Thank you everyone!  Meat & Vegetables, M & V with a vestigial '&' makes perfect sense.  Here's an almost identical vestige in my grandfather's 'Dad & Mater'. on Oct 27th 1918.  I'll amend the Nov 27th M & V transcript accordingly... I'm curating the diary at https://raburnard.uk/ @RABurnard
