Marianne Posted 27 November , 2018 Share Posted 27 November , 2018 Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on some of the notes written on the concentration report of my Great Grandfather. He is Pte G Dent, 2442, 8th DLI. Killed in action August 1915. Our family were told he had no known grave but a recent discovery of the battalion log, which has a clue about his burial, has led to us looking in more detail as to what happened and his possible burial location. On that search, we have found the concentration report which is a bit confusing. The report is for Strand Cemetery - Ploegsteert. It states at the top - Memorial Plot, then the three men on the sheet are given grave references which are crossed out and a new reference given. The second reference does not exist. I think perhaps this could be to do with the fact that the sheet states No Remains for the three men. My GF is the middle line and next to it are a series of notes and I just wondered if anyone could suggest what they could represent/mean? Thank you, Marianne

Marianne Posted 28 November , 2018 Author Share Posted 28 November , 2018 Thanks Esco. Yes that’s near to his trench. Just more wondering about the 43/c and the Houplines 2/1.

walbeer Posted 28 November , 2018 Share Posted 28 November , 2018 Pour information : Houplines n'est pas en flandre, mais bien en France près d'Armentières. Salutations et bonne recherche.

There is a thread about this story but not this particular question. I was just looking to see if anyone else could help. Apologies if this is not allowed.
