alastaircox Posted 27 November , 2018 Share Posted 27 November , 2018 Your thoughts please gents? It is impressed aluminium (I think) strips pinned to a hardwood panel, 7cm x 14cm. As follows: GRU 25700 PTE. J.F.QUICK 7/WILTS 8-10-18 GRU is the Graves Registration Unit, James Quick was KIA Somme area around 7th October 1918. What is this and why would it have been sent to his NoK? Would it have come off of his temporary grave marker?
Terry_Reeves Posted 27 November , 2018 Share Posted 27 November , 2018 (edited) They were affixed to the original wooden grave marker. The grave marker may have been sent to the next of kin, which did happen, and perhaps over the years became damaged or rotten and the strips were fixed to something more manageable.
