dutchbarge Posted 25 November , 2018 Share Posted 25 November , 2018 (edited) I have a Brodie helmet that presents as an ordinary example except for the interior rim stamp. The stamp reads "BURYS" above "D/08" above a reclining lion. I assume the helmet was manufactured by Bury's & Co Ltd of Sheffield, but all of their helmetsthat I have encountered have been stamped with a simple"B". Is this an earlier example made before the began using a simple "B"? Can any of the members shed some light on this stamp? Rif Brig. Posted 25 November , 2018 Share Posted 25 November , 2018 Hi Bill, I have seen this marking on a tank splatter mask. The leather was missing from the mask, but stamped on the inside above the nose section was BURYS and the reclining lion logo. I guess they also produced helmets as well as tank splatter masks. dutchbarge Posted 26 November , 2018 Author Share Posted 26 November , 2018 Is this stamp WW1 vintage or post war? Cheers, Bill
Paddy 60th Posted 8 December , 2018 Share Posted 8 December , 2018 Hi Bill Could you post pictures of the interior and exterior of the helmet and I'll see if I can help on the dating of it. Roger
Jerry B Posted 9 December , 2018 Share Posted 9 December , 2018 As it has the Bury's mark above the D/08 mark for Dixons I am very sure it is Great War.
