BKK Posted 23 November , 2018 Share Posted 23 November , 2018 (edited) My grandfather was eventually wounded 3 times during his 1917-1918 service in IR169 and IR111. I have not been able to google up anything on wound abbreviations which these letters may be. Maybe I am wrong on the whole interpretation. Hoping that maybe some expert could give me an answer. This wound incident occurred 29 May 1918 (This record says 30 May, but numerous others say 29) during the Aisne offensive. Other casualty deaths in his company that day were listed in the vicinity of Vandeuil. A grenade was also mentioned in some other records. He was recuperating in the summer till being sent into the Argonne in September 1918. Any help, or education on this is greatly appreciated. Thank You! AOK4 Posted 23 November , 2018 Share Posted 23 November , 2018 Hello, The abbrevations are about him being checked whether he could serve again. He was found g.v. (garnisonsverwendungsfähig - fit for garrison duty) for 4 weeks in July 1918 (KUK must be something like Kranken-Untersuchungs-Kommission probably) and k.v. (kriegsverwendungsfähig - fit for active service) on 6 September 1918. Regards, Jan
BKK Posted 23 November , 2018 Author Share Posted 23 November , 2018 (edited) Jan, Thanks so much for the translation and deciphering. That was quick! Do you think you could have a go at these next two entries? I can pick out a few of the locations, Reims, Argonne, Biberach, Lixy, Reidlingen. Anything else you can pull out of that bad handwriting? I think he was gassed in the Argonne on 1 Nov 1918. Edited 23 November , 2018 by BKK
