dravin Posted 22 November , 2018 Share Posted 22 November , 2018 I have had a look at a couple of these pension ledger cards which are sparse in information On the left are some abbreviations which I would like to understand better On one card there are just three entries for a man who it looks was rejected for a pension I believe it says "Amt 9" Next is "PA 9th Sep 1921" "Carries"? 26th Sep 1921 PA 27th Sep 1921 Another card also has PA Awards? CIR 195 RFN? And many other entries Is there a listing for the abbreviations used on these cards please ?
ss002d6252 Posted 22 November , 2018 Share Posted 22 November , 2018 Most are lost to time but.. . I belive PA is the same as the term which was still being used in my time in the civil service - 'put away', i.e. filed away after use. The day is usually a day or two after the card was updated and likely the return date entered by a filing clerk. Craig

Craig Thanks for that Craig, not a term I am familiar with but makes sense I am well used to various bodies using abbreviations, often made up by the people who used them, and subsequently no record or list was made of what they meant Thanks for that though much appreciated
